NOTA

Neighborhood of the Arts (NOTA) is no doubt the cultural epicenter of Rochester. Back in 2000 it experienced a rebirth when a trail of public art, visual exhibits and installations popped up. ARTwalk, as it was and still is known, catapulted the tired neighborhood into a vibrant, bustling section of town. Now, there is no shortage of art studios, galleries, restaurants, cafes, fitness studios, living spaces, and creative-class businesses occupying salvaged industrial factory buildings and Victorians. NOTA’s diversity of artists, small business owners, and established cultural gems make it a sanctuary for all who want and expect a little more from their community.

Situated in the historical flatiron building in between Atlantic Avenue and University Avenue is Starry Nites Café. Said to be one of the most photographed buildings in New York State (or is that the flatiron building in New York City?), this is the place you go when you want to escape the world. Sip and reflect. Work in a quiet corner. Or catch up with friends. No matter the reason for coming—not that you need one—you’ll undoubtedly find inspiration in the iconic wall from which the name came. Enjoy delicious homemade provisions, wonderful brew, and a friendly staff—all sourced locally with diligence. If you’re not feeling coffee or tea, check out the beer and wine menu. Jam out to live music on the weekends. Sit on the patio during the summer and cozy up inside during the winter. Starry Nites Café is just what the day calls for.
