Eagle Rock

A huge boulder overlooks Eagle Rock from the north and the shadow it casts when the sun hits just right gives the neighborhood its name. The eagle, though, isn’t the only reason for its Small Town USA feel. Eagle Rock Blvd and Colorado Blvd are the only main veins where restaurants dotting along give the town its growing, and unassuming, foodie reputation - even if many of them have been around for solid decades. Since 1914, Occidental College has attracted scholars, and additionally, artists have also felt the draw. There’s a refreshingly slower pace, compared to the rest of LA, that completes the Craftsman house and Spanish bungalow setting.

Driving down Roswell Street might feel like the wrong way to an award winning microbrewery oasis, but overlook Eagle Rock Brewery’s out of the way location and how it’s technically in Glassel Park because once you’ve spotted the warehouse and have ducked inside, it’s a taproom world of “Beer for the People”. Enter the first brewhouse to be based within LA in decades since opening in 2009 and take the free weekend tour, a score for craft beer enthusiasts. There’s a spirited feel here with propaganda-inspired names (like Populist, Revolution and Manifesto), board games aplenty and weekend food trucks parked outside. $5-6 pints. $8 for a 4 beer flight.
