Eagle Rock

A huge boulder overlooks Eagle Rock from the north and the shadow it casts when the sun hits just right gives the neighborhood its name. The eagle, though, isn’t the only reason for its Small Town USA feel. Eagle Rock Blvd and Colorado Blvd are the only main veins where restaurants dotting along give the town its growing, and unassuming, foodie reputation - even if many of them have been around for solid decades. Since 1914, Occidental College has attracted scholars, and additionally, artists have also felt the draw. There’s a refreshingly slower pace, compared to the rest of LA, that completes the Craftsman house and Spanish bungalow setting.

In a charming 1911 craftsman bungalow on the far end of Colorado is local favorite, Little Beast. It’s as much refined as it is laid back, making for an ideal gathering spot for dinner and drinks with friends. American gourmet comfort food is served in the main house, on the relaxed front porch, at the coziest little bar or, the best in our opinion, under the back patio’s twinkle lights. After his position as Chateau Marmont’s sous chef, Chef Sean Lowenthal was intent to create an honest, neighborhood restaurant with a seasonal menu; a place where you could feel comfortable bringing your kids or a date, and that didn’t entail making a trek west. Happy Hour: Small plates half off. Wine $5. Beer $4.
