Deira

Historically being the original downtown of Dubai, Deira is still just as important today as it was during the city’s early beginnings. Located close to the Creek, which has been a source of international trade and commerce, Deira is home to a community of diverse cultures, religions, and dreams. Anyone who’s had the privilege of growing up in Dubai has definitely encountered Deira one way or another. A bustling area filled with shops, souks, street food and museums, Deira allows for experiencing the neighbourhood on foot, which is a rarity in Dubai. With the constant development and growth to becoming a modern city, Dubai’s 'downtown' has shifted in recent years to more contemporary parts of town. However, being mildly impacted by these significant changes, Deira has pretty much stood the test of time, looking the same and functioning as it always has, which is part of it’s beauty and charm.

The Al Ghurair Centre is the first shopping mall in Dubai. Named after the Al Ghurair family, this once empty plot of land was later developed with the generosity of the family, turning it into Dubai's very first indoor shopping mall destination. Today we see malls around every corner of the city. But when Al Ghurair Centre first opened, there was nothing like it. Today, Al Ghurair Centre has had an expansive makeover to move with the times, and still has everything one can look for in a mall. Dining options, retail and entertainment are aplenty over here.
