The Deira Creek is probably one of the most important components in the development of the city of Dubai. The Creek cuts through Dubai, splitting it into two main districts - Deira and Bur Dubai. Historically, both sides of the Creek is where early settlers and tribes first arrived. And as the creek opens up to the Arabian Gulf, trade ships from neighbouring countries would pass through and stop at the Deira side of the creek, to offload goods and take things to their home countries. Today, not much has changed. You will still see these beautiful, elaborate wooden ships along the creek hauling goods in and out of their docking stations. Walking along the Deira Creek on a good day includes taking in some sunshine, lots of photographic opportunities, and meeting lots of friendly faces. And if you're bored of Deira, take a water taxi, or Abra, to crossover to Bur Dubai for only a Dirham.
