Deira

Historically being the original downtown of Dubai, Deira is still just as important today as it was during the city’s early beginnings. Located close to the Creek, which has been a source of international trade and commerce, Deira is home to a community of diverse cultures, religions, and dreams. Anyone who’s had the privilege of growing up in Dubai has definitely encountered Deira one way or another. A bustling area filled with shops, souks, street food and museums, Deira allows for experiencing the neighbourhood on foot, which is a rarity in Dubai. With the constant development and growth to becoming a modern city, Dubai’s 'downtown' has shifted in recent years to more contemporary parts of town. However, being mildly impacted by these significant changes, Deira has pretty much stood the test of time, looking the same and functioning as it always has, which is part of it’s beauty and charm.

Spice Souk

The Spice Souk is home to a collection of narrow alleyways filled with a selection of shops selling colourful, fragrant spices. Be prepared to find a variety of spices, herbs, household items, and cheesy souvenirs for swarming tourists. If you look hard enough, you might find some interesting shops selling historical artefacts from the region that you won't find anywhere else in town. Remember, never go ahead with the initial sale price. Haggle your way down until you're satisfied.
