Deira

Historically being the original downtown of Dubai, Deira is still just as important today as it was during the city’s early beginnings. Located close to the Creek, which has been a source of international trade and commerce, Deira is home to a community of diverse cultures, religions, and dreams. Anyone who’s had the privilege of growing up in Dubai has definitely encountered Deira one way or another. A bustling area filled with shops, souks, street food and museums, Deira allows for experiencing the neighbourhood on foot, which is a rarity in Dubai. With the constant development and growth to becoming a modern city, Dubai’s 'downtown' has shifted in recent years to more contemporary parts of town. However, being mildly impacted by these significant changes, Deira has pretty much stood the test of time, looking the same and functioning as it always has, which is part of it’s beauty and charm.

Country Video

Address
13 Baniyas Road

Country Video is more a library for films, music and entertainment from Iran then a standard video store. Rows of shelves are filled with DVDs and music CDs of both classic and contemporary Persian entertainment. Make sure to speak to the brothers that own the store. They will be happy to show you their collection of postcard sized film posters from classic Iranian cinema carefully archived in folders. If you're lucky enough, they might give you some store memorabilia! Country Video is adorned with photographs of individuals with retro haircuts and outfits. You will occasionally spot music or films by Arabic and Western entertainers. But the overall store is super nostalgic and reminiscent of a classic era in Iranian entertainment.
