Deira

Historically being the original downtown of Dubai, Deira is still just as important today as it was during the city’s early beginnings. Located close to the Creek, which has been a source of international trade and commerce, Deira is home to a community of diverse cultures, religions, and dreams. Anyone who’s had the privilege of growing up in Dubai has definitely encountered Deira one way or another. A bustling area filled with shops, souks, street food and museums, Deira allows for experiencing the neighbourhood on foot, which is a rarity in Dubai. With the constant development and growth to becoming a modern city, Dubai’s 'downtown' has shifted in recent years to more contemporary parts of town. However, being mildly impacted by these significant changes, Deira has pretty much stood the test of time, looking the same and functioning as it always has, which is part of it’s beauty and charm.

Deira Clocktower

Anyone who has lived in Dubai long enough must have driven around the Deira Clocktower roundabout. Located at the intersection of Deira which leads to Al Maktoum Bridge to crossover to Bur Dubai, the Deira Clocktower was originally constructed in the Sixties, and is a symbol of Dubai's humble beginnings as a city with big dreams. Known as one of the most beautiful clocktowers in the world, the Deira Clocktower still stands proud and has seen its surrounding environment grow from desert sands to the modern city it is today.
