Schönbrunn

You couldn’t find two neighbourhoods less similar than these two, despite being directly connected through the Schoenbrunn Palace Gardens. Meidling has often been called “Gelebte Vielfalt”, which literally means “Diversity at Work.” Hietzing, on the other hand, is considered one of the most upmarket neighbourhoods in the city. You won’t find many tourists aside from in the palace gardens itself whilst roaming around this part of Vienna. If you’re more curious about how the locals really live, join me in discovering authentic food joints, quirky museums and afternoons spent in the café, watching people relax and read the daily news. Let’s go!

Heating Museum Brennpunkt

Of course, this might be the first time that you have heard that such a thing as a museum dedicated to heating actually exists. But for an architecture nerd like me, this is actually quite fascinating. You can see old boilers, steam heating systems for schools, hospitals and nurseries and also what people used to use to heat their homes. The museum also displays artfully crafted ovens. I really hope you make the trip to the Brennpunkt museum, and, as you stand there, you will think that this really cool spot is clearly only something a local would ever think to mention.
