Schönbrunn

You couldn’t find two neighbourhoods less similar than these two, despite being directly connected through the Schoenbrunn Palace Gardens. Meidling has often been called “Gelebte Vielfalt”, which literally means “Diversity at Work.” Hietzing, on the other hand, is considered one of the most upmarket neighbourhoods in the city. You won’t find many tourists aside from in the palace gardens itself whilst roaming around this part of Vienna. If you’re more curious about how the locals really live, join me in discovering authentic food joints, quirky museums and afternoons spent in the café, watching people relax and read the daily news. Let’s go!

Hetzendorfer Viertel

Take the number 62 tram down to Schloss Hetzendorf. It’s a renowned fashion school though sometimes you get lucky and are invited there for a wedding. If you’re able to catch a glimpse of the beautiful palace or even manage to peek into the dreamy garden, then lucky you! Now head back up and continue straight ahead. Don’t jump on the tram again, but take some time and wander through the streets. I’ve always admired the big villas there. It’s the perfect place to get carried away and make up stories about the people who once lived there.
