You couldn’t find two neighbourhoods less similar than these two, despite being directly connected through the Schoenbrunn Palace Gardens. Meidling has often been called “Gelebte Vielfalt”, which literally means “Diversity at Work.” Hietzing, on the other hand, is considered one of the most upmarket neighbourhoods in the city. You won’t find many tourists aside from in the palace gardens itself whilst roaming around this part of Vienna. This might be not the fanciest of places, however it’s run by an association that helps prevent refugees from being deported. Here you can get authentic international cuisine, cooked with love. Whatever you pay is called a ‘donation’, because it’s used for the refugee project in the Arndtstrasse 88. This place is especially lovely in the summer, when you can sit outside and watch the kids romping about at the local market.
