Schönbrunn

You couldn’t find two neighbourhoods less similar than these two, despite being directly connected through the Schoenbrunn Palace Gardens. Meidling has often been called “Gelebte Vielfalt”, which literally means “Diversity at Work.” Hietzing, on the other hand, is considered one of the most upmarket neighbourhoods in the city. You won’t find many tourists aside from in the palace gardens itself whilst roaming around this part of Vienna. If you’re more curious about how the locals really live, join me in discovering authentic food joints, quirky museums and afternoons spent in the café, watching people relax and read the daily news. Let’s go!

Werkbundsiedlung Wien

If you are an architecture nerd, you MUST come here! Trust me, the locals won’t understand, but if you know what Bauhaus means and who Margarete SchütteLihotzky was, then you are about to discover a real treasure. The municipal colony was opened in 1932, and was a collaboration of architects designing for the future. While from today’s perspective these houses might seem pretty boring, back in the 40s they were revolutionary! When it first opened, it was considered the biggest architectural exposition Europe’s ever seen!
