For better or for worse, South Kensington is a neighborhood in transition. Fancy new developments are popping up everywhere, but like so many areas of Philadelphia, the true appeal of South Kensington comes from it’s rich history and amalgamation of cultures. Although South Kensington isn’t (yet) the tourist destination that neighboring Northern Liberties or Fishtown are touted as, it still has much to offer.

One of the first big arts centers in the neighborhood, Crane Arts is still running strong. The building houses galleries, art studios, and two curated spaces——the Grey Room and the mammoth Icebox. Philadelphia Photo Arts Center, one of the building’s mainstays, offers photography classes, exhibitions, and services like printing and scanning.
