For better or for worse, South Kensington is a neighborhood in transition. Fancy new developments are popping up everywhere, but like so many areas of Philadelphia, the true appeal of South Kensington comes from it’s rich history and amalgamation of cultures. Although South Kensington isn’t (yet) the tourist destination that neighboring Northern Liberties or Fishtown are touted as, it still has much to offer.

For those want to support the handmade-in-America movement by wearing it, book an appointment at Norman Porter. They make their jeans one floor above their appointment-only shop, and they also do hemming and repair services, even on jeans that aren’t their own. Much to my chagrin, they don’t make ladies’ jeans, but they do also make tote bags, belts, hats and aprons which are easily unisex.
